A Journey Through Nature and Adventure

Dominica, often called the Nature Island of the Caribbean, stole my heart from day one. We sailed into Scotts Head Bay, where the calm waters gave way to lush green cliffs, perfect for a morning of snorkeling.

At Champagne Reef, I floated through volcanic bubbles and schools of fish that made it feel like I was in a live aquarium.

Later, I trekked the famous Waitukubuli National Trail, winding through rainforests and up to dramatic vistas.

The diversity of experiences on this island—hiking, diving, and discovering the Kalinago culture—was truly unique.

For those looking to maximize their time in Dominica, here are 8 must-do activities:

  • Boiling Lake – The second-largest hot lake in the world, located deep within the island’s mountainous rainforest.
  • Trafalgar Falls – Twin waterfalls that are easily accessible and provide an ideal spot for a refreshing dip.
  • Waitukubuli National Trail – The Caribbean’s longest hiking trail, stretching 185 km through rivers, villages, and mountains.
  • Champagne Reef – A unique snorkeling spot where volcanic gases create bubbly underwater trails.
  • Emerald Pool – A picturesque waterfall-fed pool set amidst lush greenery.

Dominica also offers rich cultural experiences like visiting the Kalinago Territory, home to the island’s indigenous community.

Best Bays in Dominica and Guadeloupe

For beach lovers, the best bays in Dominica and Guadeloupe are perfect for relaxation or exploration:

Pointe Baptiste Beach in Dominica is a secluded spot known for its tranquility and natural beauty, while the nearby Red Rocks offer unique rock formations and stunning ocean views.

In Guadeloupe, Anse de Pompierre in Les Saintes is a favorite for its clear waters and peaceful atmosphere. Pigeon Island is a fantastic spot for diving and exploring vibrant coral reefs.

The Perfect Time to Visit

We sailed in January, which I think is the best time to visit. The dry season blessed us with perfect winds, calm seas, and warm weather. Plus, celebrating New Year’s Eve on a catamaran? I don’t think anything compares to sipping champagne while watching fireworks light up the Caribbean sky. It felt so special to welcome the new year surrounded by the serenity of the ocean and new friends.

Highlights of My Catamaran Vacation

One of the most enchanting aspects of my catamaran vacation was waking up each day to a breathtaking new view, each more stunning than the last. The gentle sway of the boat, coupled with the soft sound of waves lapping against the hull, created an idyllic atmosphere that set the perfect tone for the adventures ahead.

We explored hidden beaches that are accessible only by sea, such as the pristine Pointe Baptiste Beach in Dominica and the tranquil Anse de Pompierre in Guadeloupe. Here, the soft, powdery sand met the shimmering turquoise waters, creating a picturesque paradise that felt like a well-kept secret.

Each excursion was not only a feast for the eyes but also a chance to immerse myself in the local culture. After a day of exploration, I savored the freshest seafood at charming beachside restaurants, where the flavors of the Caribbean came alive in every bite.
