Your sailing trip
A one week sailing circuit through the Greek Cyclades, connecting five distinct Aegean islands from a base port just 40 minutes from Athens airport, with Meltemi winds, crystalline anchorages and authentic island harbours.
Few sailing areas in Europe concentrate as much variety into as compact a space as the Cyclades. Thirty-nine islands spread across the central Aegean Sea, each shaped by the same volcanic geology, the same whitewashed architecture and the same fishing culture, yet each with a personality distinct enough to make every stop feel worth the passage. The proximity between islands means that a single week is enough to move through several of them without covering distances that make the sailing itself feel like work.
This sailing holiday departs from Lavrio Marina, on the eastern coast of the Attica peninsula, a well-equipped port with provisioning options and direct road access from Athens International Airport in under an hour. From there, the route heads into the western and central Cyclades through a sequence of five islands that together cover a wide spectrum of what the archipelago has to offer: Kea for its quiet anchorages and ancient ruins, Mykonos for its internationally recognized harbour atmosphere and proximity to Delos, Paros for traditional Cycladic character and versatile mooring options, Serifos for remote island life in its most unpolished form, and Kythnos for the extraordinary natural anchorage of Kolona and a gentle return passage along the Attica coast.
Sailing conditions in the Cyclades are defined largely by the Meltemi, a northerly wind of Aegean origin that establishes itself reliably from early July through mid-August. In its stronger phases it reaches force 7 and above in exposed channels, particularly in the open water around Mykonos and in the passages between the western islands. The Meltemi is not a wind to sail against without planning, but understanding its direction and timing is what makes the Cyclades rewarding rather than difficult. Departures timed for the morning, before the wind builds to its daily peak, and routes planned to use the northerly direction rather than fight it, turn the Meltemi from a challenge into the engine that drives a genuinely satisfying week of sailing. Outside the peak summer window, particularly in June and September, conditions are considerably more forgiving and the anchorages are less crowded.
The cultural and historical depth of this sailing area adds a dimension that purely natural destinations cannot match. The island of Delos, accessible as a day stop from Mykonos, is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the ancient Greek world and can be reached by sailing rather than a ferry ticket. Cape Sounion, on the return passage to Lavrio, carries the Temple of Poseidon on its headland directly above the sea, a natural endpoint to a week spent entirely on the water.

Yacht - Hanse 458
The Hanse 458 is a 45-foot German-built monohull designed by Judel/Vrolijk and Co. that manages to feel genuinely easy to sail while offering an interior that works equally well for a week of coastal cruising as it does for longer offshore passages. The combination of all lines led aft to the helm; a self-tacking headsail and twin wheels gives the boat a level of handling simplicity that makes short-handed sailing genuinely comfortable.
The Hanse 458 was launched in 2018 as part of Hanse's consistent approach to building modern cruising yachts that prioritize ease of handling without compromising on space or onboard quality. The deck layout reflects this directly. All sail controls run aft to the helm stations, which means the boat can be managed from a single position without crew moving around the deck during maneuvers. The twin wheels are positioned to give clear visibility over the stern and direct access to a large swimming platform, and the cockpit organizes itself naturally around two L-shaped lounges with a folding table for outdoor dining, a sink and an integrated barbecue near the helm.
Going below, the interior of the Hanse 458 is one of its clearest strengths. The companionway stairway is wide and set at a gentle gradient that makes moving between deck and cabin considerably easier than on most 45-foot monohulls. The saloon is lit by panoramic hull windows and overhead hatches that keep the space bright throughout the day, and the light French oak panelling against darker Acacia floor panels gives the interior a quality of finish closer to a city apartment than a traditional yacht. The L-shaped dinette seats up to eight comfortably, with a separate lounge to port and a dedicated navigation station that keeps the chart area distinct from the social space.
The galley is equipped with a three-burner stove, oven, refrigerator and ample counter space for meal preparation underway or at anchor. The layout is available in three or four cabin configurations, with the forward master cabin benefiting from full beam width and an island berth. The aft cabins offer above-average width and private ensuite access. Engine noise and vibration are well isolated from the living areas, which contributes to the genuinely quiet onboard atmosphere the 458 is known for both underway and at anchor.
The exact cabin configuration will be confirmed before departure while maintaining the same standard of onboard comfort and finish.

Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor, ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What’s a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
On skipper-only charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties think salads, pasta, and good teamwork. If there's a hostess, light meals and tidying are included, but it's still a casual, collaborative vibe. On fully crewed yachts, you’ll enjoy full service with a chef and crew managing everything. Want to know what’s included in your setup? Read the full guide: Who takes care of cooking and cleaning on a sailing charter?
Summer sailing holidays rarely face major weather issues but when the sea gets rough, skippers adjust the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how crews handle these changes?
