Feed Endangered Iguanas on Allen’s Cay
Allen’s Cay is one of the few places in the world where you can observe and interact with the endangered Northern Bahamian Rock Iguana in its natural habitat. These large, docile reptiles—often sporting vibrant shades of pink and orange—are accustomed to respectful human visitors. Bring along approved snacks like grapes or leafy greens (never bread or processed food) and enjoy the unique experience of hand-feeding these prehistoric creatures right on the beach. The iguanas will often approach gently and are a delight for wildlife enthusiasts, families, and photographers looking for a rare encounter. With the turquoise sea as a backdrop and the iguanas posing naturally in the sun, Allen’s Cay offers one of the most memorable photo ops of your cruise through the Exumas.

Hike Boo Boo Hill on Warderick Wells
Located in the heart of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, Boo Boo Hill is the highest point on Warderick Wells Cay and offers one of the most iconic hiking experiences in the Bahamas. The trail winds through native vegetation and up gentle inclines to a panoramic overlook where you can admire 360° views of the surrounding cays and reef-streaked waters. At the summit, you’ll find a unique sailor’s shrine made of driftwood, where yacht crews leave marked plaques as a symbolic tribute to their journey. The path is suitable for all fitness levels, and the reward at the top is ideal for drone footage or sunset photography. Along the way, keep an eye out for blowholes and native lizards, adding a wild charm to this scenic trek.

Kayak or Paddleboard Shallow Sandbars
The Exumas are famous for their surreal sandbars and shallow tidal zones—perfectly suited for low-impact adventures like kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Paddle your way through crystal-clear waters around Shroud Cay or Big Farmer’s Cay, where underwater visibility is so high you’ll spot starfish, stingrays, and even baby reef sharks gliding beneath your board. These areas offer a peaceful, crowd-free alternative to motorized excursions and are perfect for travelers looking to connect with nature in a slow, immersive way. Depending on the tides, you might even find yourself paddling over sunlit sandbars that disappear into open sea—making you feel like you’re floating in the sky. Kayak rentals and paddleboards are typically available directly from your catamaran or nearby marinas.
Travel organizer tips
Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light—but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? Read our full guide: What to pack in a suitcase for a yacht charter
Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor—ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What’s a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
On skipper-only charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties—think salads, pasta, and good teamwork. If there's a hostess, light meals and tidying are included, but it's still a casual, collaborative vibe. On fully crewed yachts, you’ll enjoy full service with a chef and crew managing everything. Want to know what’s included in your setup? Read the full guide: Who takes care of cooking and cleaning on a sailing charter?
Summer sailing holidays rarely face major weather issues—but when the sea gets rough, skippers adjust the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how crews handle these changes?
