A 7-day sailing holiday departing from Marina di Procida, navigating the Gulf of Naples, the Pontine archipelago and the islands of Ischia and Capri, combining thermal coasts, Roman archaeology, volcanic geology and one of the most historically layered sailing circuits in the central Mediterranean.
Procida sits at the geographic center of a sailing area that extends in three distinct directions from its harbor: west toward the Pontine Islands and the open Tyrrhenian, south toward Capri and the Amalfi Coast, and north around the volcanic mass of Ischia toward the thermal bays and archaeological coastline of the Phlegraean Fields. From Marina di Procida, all three directions are reachable within a single week of comfortable daily passages, and the itinerary that moves through the Pontine Islands via Ischia and returns via Capri covers the widest variety of landscape, history and natural environment available in this part of the Mediterranean.
Procida itself is one of the most visually coherent islands in the Bay of Naples, its colored harbor facades and fishing community character maintained through a combination of geographical compactness and the relative distance from the main tourist infrastructure of Ischia and Capri. The island served as the setting and inspiration for Elsa Morante's 1957 novel L'isola di Arturo and was named Italian Capital of Culture in 2022, a recognition of a preserved island identity that sailors approaching from the sea can read directly in the architecture of Marina Corricella, the oldest fishing harbor in the Tyrrhenian, painted in the ochre, terracotta and pale yellow tones that make it one of the most photographed waterfronts in southern Italy.
Ischia is the largest island in the Bay of Naples and the one with the most geologically active thermal system. The volcanic origin of the island is expressed in hydrothermal springs that have been used therapeutically since Roman times, natural hot pools accessible from the sea in coves like Sorgeto on the southern coast, and the massive trachyte rock of Castello Aragonese rising from the sea near Ischia Porto with a fortified complex occupied continuously for over a millennium. The island's wine production on the volcanic soil of Monte Epomeo, particularly the indigenous white Biancolella and Forastera varieties, adds a food and wine dimension to the sailing stop that the Bay of Naples islands share with the Aeolian and Pontine archipelagos further afield.
The Pontine Islands are the defining element of this itinerary in terms of natural sailing quality. Ponza, Palmarola, Ventotene and Santo Stefano form a circuit of remarkable variety within a compact sailing area, from the carved Roman harbor and volcanic caves of Ponza to the uninhabited polychrome cliffs of Palmarola and the imperial Roman exile island of Ventotene with its ancient port still in use below the modern harbor.

Day1
Marina di Procida, Boarding and First Evening
Boarding takes place at Marina di Procida from 17:00. The marina is positioned on the northwestern side of the island with parking and transfer connections available for guests arriving from Naples or from Capodichino Airport. After settling into the cabins and a safety briefing covering the week's navigation plan, the evening is free to explore the island on foot. The traditional procidana lingua di suocera pastry from the local bakeries and the seafood restaurants facing the Marina Corricella provide the first introduction to the food character of this sailing area. Overnight moored in Procida.
Day2
Procida Circumnavigation and Ischia
After breakfast onboard, a morning circumnavigation of Procida by boat visits the most secluded coves on the island's western and southern coastline before the boat sets course for Ischia. The southern bay of Spiaggia della Chiaia is accessible only by boat or by the steps descending from the village above, and the morning swim here before the passage to Ischia gives a quieter encounter with the island than the more visited northern beaches. Ischia Porto or Sant'Angelo on the southern coast provides the evening mooring, with the option of exploring the waterfront or finding dinner ashore. Overnight in Ischia.
Day3
Sorgeto Thermal Bay and Departure for Ventotene
The morning begins with a stop at Sorgeto Bay on the southwestern coast of Ischia, where geothermal springs heat the shallow water along the rocky shoreline to temperatures well above the surrounding sea. The combination of the natural thermal pool, accessible by a staircase from the road above or by tender from the boat, and the clear water of the bay makes this one of the most distinctive swimming stops in the Gulf of Naples. After a late morning departure, the boat crosses the open water southwest toward Ventotene, covering the longer passage of the week in the afternoon. Arrival in Ventotene in the early evening allows time to moor in Porto Romano, the ancient Roman harbor carved directly into the volcanic rock, and to walk up into the village for dinner in one of the restaurants overlooking the harbor. Day4
Santo Stefano and Ponza
The morning begins with a short sail to the uninhabited island of Santo Stefano, visible from Ventotene and reachable in under an hour. The Bourbon prison built at the end of the 18th century occupies the summit of the island in a circular arrangement designed to prevent escape, and the walk around its perimeter provides views over the surrounding sea and back toward Ventotene that are worth the anchor stop. Navigation continues north toward Ponza through the afternoon, with the dramatic coastline of the island coming into view as the boat approaches from the south. Ponza port is lively in high season and the harbor restaurants, local wine and the evening promenade through the painted harbor town reward the longer passage from Ventotene. Overnight in Ponza.
Day5
Ponza Coastline, Chiaia di Luna and Palmarola
A morning dedicated to the Ponza coastline by boat and tender visits the Chiaia di Luna bay, a wide beach of pale sand below vertical tufa cliffs connected to the port by the Roman tunnel carved through the headland. The caves between Chiaia di Luna and the Faraglioni to the south and the natural arch at the northern tip of the island are best explored by dinghy in calm conditions. After lunch onboard the boat sails northwest toward Palmarola, the westernmost and most naturally wild island in the Pontine group. The anchorage at Cala del Porto on the eastern side provides access to the two seasonal restaurants on the island and a base for exploring the polychrome cliff faces and sea caves that make Palmarola the most visually distinctive stop in the archipelago. Day6
Return through Ischia toward Capri
The return passage east from Palmarola heads back toward the Gulf of Naples, with a stop on the southern coast of Ischia for a final swim in the thermal waters of Sorgeto or in one of the sheltered coves before the afternoon navigation continues toward Capri. The approach to Capri from the west as the afternoon light changes across the Faraglioni rock formations is the most cinematic arrival of the week, with the limestone cliffs rising from deep blue water and the island's distinctive profile unchanged from the approaches that Roman emperors and Grand Tour travelers recorded over the centuries. The evening in Capri, on the waterfront of Marina Grande or in the piazzetta above, closes the sailing week in the highest concentration of Mediterranean island atmosphere available in the Bay of Naples. Day7
Return to Procida and Disembarkation
The final navigation heads north from Capri toward Procida, passing close to the Punta Campanella headland at the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula where a marine protected area creates some of the clearest water in the northern Tyrrhenian. A last swimming stop in the protected waters near the cape before the boat completes the return to Marina di Procida in the afternoon. Guests spend the final night onboard and disembarkation takes place the following morning by 09:00.

The Lagoon 46 is a VPLP-designed cruising catamaran that replaced the legendary Lagoon 450 in 2019 and quickly established itself as one of the most chartered multihulls in the Mediterranean. The combination of a redesigned hull with improved upwind performance, a fully developed flybridge living area and an interior by Nauta Design produces a boat that functions as genuinely well for a week of coastal island hopping as it does for longer ocean passages.
The Lagoon 46 was developed with a clear brief: take one of the most successful catamaran platforms in charter history and improve it in every measurable dimension without losing the qualities that made the 450 so widely chosen. VPLP's hull revision produced a boat that points noticeably closer to the wind than its predecessor, with boat speeds of 7 to 9 knots in 12 to 18 knots of true wind. The mast is positioned further aft than the 450, optimizing sail balance and reducing pitch motion in choppy conditions.
The flybridge defines the onboard experience more than any other single feature. It is a full-sized outdoor living area with a helm station, dining space for eight, a large sunbed directly behind the helm and a wet bar, accessed from the cockpit and from both sides of the deck. The helm position on the flybridge gives the skipper panoramic visibility over both bows while remaining in natural communication with guests on the level below. The cockpit, directly beneath, is organized around a large central table with seating for a full group, connected to the saloon through wide sliding doors that can be left fully open in settled conditions.
Below deck, Nauta Design's interior uses quality materials and well-considered lighting throughout a saloon that rivals a small apartment in terms of combined floor space and headroom. The galley is well positioned with wraparound sea views, full provisioning facilities and a chart table keeping navigation separate from the social space. An electrically operated hydraulic swim platform at the stern expands the usable aft deck area at anchor and simplifies water access considerably compared to fixed ladder arrangements.
The Lagoon 46 is available in three, four and six cabin configurations accommodating up to twelve guests. The exact layout will be confirmed before departure while maintaining the same standard of onboard comfort and space.
