A cabin charter sailing from Nassau's Palm Cay Marina through the Exumas, including Highbourne Cay, Shroud Cay, Staniel Cay, Compass Cay and Warderick Wells, with stops for swimming, snorkeling and the famous swimming pigs along the way.
The cruise departs from Palm Cay Marina in Nassau and moves south through the Exumas, a chain of small cays stretching through some of the clearest water in the Bahamas, before returning to Nassau at the end of the week.
Sailing here favors short hops between cays rather than long open water passages, with the route shaped around sheltered anchorages, sandbanks and a scattering of small islands that are largely uninhabited. The Exumas Land and Sea Park, covering much of the central part of the chain, protects a landscape of shallow turquoise banks, mangrove creeks and coral reefs, and forms the heart of the itinerary.
Each stop along the way has its own character. Highbourne Cay and Norman's Cay offer an easy introduction to the area, with calm anchorages suited to snorkeling and paddleboarding, while Shroud Cay is known for its tidal creek, often called the washing machine, that winds through the mangroves. Staniel Cay is one of the more social stops, home to Thunderball Grotto and the nearby beach where wild pigs swim out to meet passing boats. Day1
Boarding in Nassau
Boarding takes place at Palm Cay Marina in Nassau in the early evening, with time to settle into the cabins before a welcome dinner on board. The night is spent in the marina.
Day2
Nassau to Highbourne Cay
The boat sails into the Exumas, arriving at Highbourne Cay after a half day passage. The afternoon is free for snorkeling, paddleboarding and kayaking, or a walk along the beach, with the night spent at anchor, or nearby at Norman's Cay depending on conditions.
Day3
Highbourne Cay to Shroud Cay
A shorter sail leads to Shroud Cay, where a dinghy trip through the mangrove creeks reveals the tidal current known locally as the washing machine, a popular spot for swimming. The rest of the day is spent relaxing on the cay's beach, with the night at anchor.
Day4
Shroud Cay to Staniel Cay
An early sail brings the boat to Staniel Cay, with a stop at Big Major Cay to swim with the wild pigs that gather along the beach, followed by snorkeling at Thunderball Grotto, timed around the tide. The night is spent on a mooring buoy off Staniel Cay, with the option of a drink at the yacht club ashore.
Day5
Staniel Cay to Compass Cay and Cambridge Cay
The morning includes a visit to the Rachel's Bubble Bath rock pools, tide permitting, before continuing to Compass Cay, where calm water allows for swimming alongside small nurse sharks. In the evening, a short sail continues to Cambridge Cay for a peaceful overnight anchorage.
Day6
Cambridge Cay to Warderick Wells and Norman's Cay
The morning stops at O'Brien's Cay, known as the Aquarium, offers one of the best snorkeling spots of the trip alongside a shallow sandbank. The boat then continues to Warderick Wells, where a walk to the top of Boo Boo Hill gives sweeping views over the park, before finishing the day at Norman's Cay, where a sunken plane in shallow water is visible while swimming.
Day7
Norman's Cay to Allen's Cay and Return to Nassau
An early departure allows a stop at Allen's Cay to see its resident iguanas before the boat sails back toward Nassau, with dinner served on board during the return passage. The last night is spent in the marina. Breakfast is served on board the following morning before disembarkation takes place at Palm Cay Marina.
