A one-way sailing holiday from Zadar to Dubrovnik, exploring the wild landscapes of Dugi Otok and the Kornati Islands before continuing south through Hvar, Brač and Korčula to end beneath the walls of one of the Mediterranean's most celebrated cities.
The cruise departs from the Zadar area and follows the Dalmatian coast south in a one-way route that ends a week later in Dubrovnik, covering a stretch of the Adriatic that concentrates some of the most varied island sailing in Croatia within a single itinerary.
Navigation moves progressively south through three distinct sailing environments. The northern section, around Dugi Otok and the Kornati Islands, is defined by wild, largely uninhabited landscapes, dramatic limestone cliffs and a density of islets that makes for some of the most visually striking sailing grounds in the Mediterranean. The pace here is slower and the anchorages quieter, shaped by the protected nature of the national park rather than by tourism.
The central section shifts toward the most populated and celebrated islands of the Dalmatian coast. Hvar draws visitors from across Europe for its Renaissance architecture and animated harbor atmosphere, while Brač is known for its rugged inland scenery, vineyards and the iconic curved pebble spit of Zlatni Rat at Bol. Both islands combine natural beauty with a lived-in coastal character that reflects centuries of Dalmatian maritime culture.
Moving into southern Dalmatia, the landscape and atmosphere shift again. Korčula, built on a small peninsula enclosed by medieval walls, carries the most architecturally concentrated stop between Hvar and Dubrovnik, with a street layout specifically designed to manage the prevailing winds and a history closely associated with the Venetian Republic. The final approach to Dubrovnik from the sea, with the UNESCO-listed city walls rising from the water, is one of the more memorable arrivals in the Mediterranean.
Days follow the rhythm of a one-way passage, with morning departures, midday swimming stops and afternoon arrivals that leave time to explore each island before moving on the following day. The combination of short hops in the north and longer open water legs toward the south gives the week a natural sense of progression from one end of the Dalmatian coast to the other.
Itinerary
Day1
Boarding in Zadar
Check-in takes place in the Zadar area during the afternoon, with time to settle into the cabins and meet the crew before a short welcome briefing covering the route and onboard routines. The first evening is spent in or near Zadar, with the city's Roman forum, sea organ and lit promenade worth a short visit before the cruise begins the following morning.
Day2
Zadar to Dugi Otok
The first sailing day heads northwest toward Dugi Otok, the longest island in the Zadar archipelago, with a coastline alternating sheltered eastern bays with more exposed western cliffs. The day includes a swimming stop in clear water before arriving at a quiet bay or small harbor on the island's eastern side for the night.
Day3
Dugi Otok to the Kornati Islands
Navigation continues into the Kornati Islands, a national park of nearly 100 uninhabited islands, reefs and cliffs forming one of the most densely clustered archipelagos in the Mediterranean. The day is spent moving slowly through the islands, swimming in clear water and anchoring in one of the park's natural bays, with no built-up marinas or crowds to manage.
Day4
Kornati to Hvar
A longer sailing day heads south from the Kornati toward Hvar, crossing through the wider part of the central Adriatic and arriving at either Hvar Town, Jelsa or Stari Grad depending on conditions and preference. Hvar is one of the sunniest islands in Croatia and one of the most internationally visited, with a waterfront promenade, Renaissance loggia and a harbor that fills with sailing boats each evening through the summer. A swimming stop along the way breaks the crossing into two natural halves.
Day5
Hvar to Brač
After breakfast, the route crosses to Brač, the largest island in the central Dalmatian group and home to Vidova Gora, the highest point among all Adriatic islands. The main sailing destination on Brač's southern coast is Bol, where Zlatni Rat, the iconic curved pebble spit extending into the Hvar Channel, is best approached from the water. The day includes a swimming stop before the afternoon arrival, with the evening spent in Bol marina or at anchor in a nearby bay.
Day6
Brač to Korčula
The southward route continues toward Korčula, with the crossing passing through open water between the central and southern Dalmatian islands. Korčula Town, built on a small oval peninsula enclosed by medieval walls, is one of the most architecturally intact stops on the entire route, with a herringbone street layout designed specifically to channel sea breezes through the town in summer. The evening is spent in the harbor, with the old town, local wine bars and waterfront restaurants all within easy walking distance of the quay.
Day7
Korčula to Dubrovnik and Disembarkation
The final sailing day heads southeast from Korčula toward Dubrovnik, with the last open water crossing of the week concluding in one of the most celebrated arrivals in the Mediterranean. The approach to Dubrovnik from the sea reveals the city walls in full, rising directly from the water above the harbor entrance. Arrival takes place in the afternoon, leaving time to take in the view from the water before the final night on board. Disembarkation takes place the following morning after breakfast.

What to pack for a sailing holiday?
Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light, but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? What’s a Typical Day Like on a Yacht Charter?
Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor, ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Who Handles Cooking and Cleaning on a Yacht Charter?
On skipper-only charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties, think salads, pasta, and good teamwork. If there's a hostess, light meals and tidying are included, but it's still a casual, collaborative vibe. On fully crewed yachts, you’ll enjoy full service with a chef and crew managing everything. What Happens in Case of Bad Weather During a Sailing Holiday?
Summer sailing holidays rarely face major weather issues, but when the sea gets rough, skippers adjust the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how crews handle these changes?
