Sailing in the paradise: Maddalena Archipelago, Costa Smeralda and Bonifacio
Make your dream come true in Costa Smeralda!
The whitest beaches in the Mediterranean and emerald coloured water along with the very fine sand pink beaches and their harmony with nature, will give you magical holiday memories.
This part of Sardinia, thanks to its Mistral wind, is a real paradise for sailing lovers.
For sailors and non-sailors alike what better way to experience Sardinia than on a sailing boat designed to maximize your comfort thanks to the spacious cockpit, ample cushioned sunbathing area, climate control in each cabin, the finest bed linens, spacious showers and top quality finishes throughout.
Besides sailing and swimming the food is also outstanding. Sardinian people are passionate about pasta, meat, cheese and fish, delicious wines makes the region even more ideal for lunches and dinners.
We will sail around the most beautiful La Maddalena archipelago islands which are made of La Maddalena, Spargi, Caprera, Budelli, Santa Maria, Razzoli, S.Stefano. The area is perfect for sailing as well as relaxing with stunning anchorages where you can soak up the sun, swim and snorkel before enjoying delicious cocktails and lunch or dinner onboard.
Itinerary
Day1
A slice of heaven where harmony between nature and architecture reigns supreme.
Poltu Quatu in local dialect means “hidden port”, and indeed it is a slice of heaven where harmony between nature and architecture reigns supreme. This natural fjord was discovered in 1979 by 2 lovers who sailed there to spend a day in a lovely place in close contact with the wild nature of Sardinia.
The day you arrive, before starting sailing, you can visit this small maritime village build using local materials, like wood and granite. For this reason, Poltu Quatu is still authentic, although it is international jet-set’s favourite destination.
Day2
The Italian Tahiti: Caprera island
We start sailing the blue waters of the Costa Smeralda to our first destination, the island of Caprera in the archipelago of La Maddalena. The trip is beautiful, sailing from the south we will find Cala Andreani, Cala Relitto and then Cala Portese: all of them are impressive. These coves are dressed with fine white sand, crystal clear waters and a beautiful natural environment with Mediterranean vegetation that combines with the hardness of the granite stone. Going on, the jewel of the crown, Cala Coticcio, also known as the Italian Tahiti. We will enjoy a pleasant quiet night. Caprera has been declared a natural reserve in order to protect its full time (and only) residents the royal seagull, cormorant and peregrine falcons, so be sure to take your binoculars as you climb the volcanic peak of Monte Teiolane from where you can see the entire archipelago stretched out in front of you. You can also visit the House of Garibaldi, the famous Italian’s retirement retreat which is now a museum and memorial chapel.
Day3
The big sister of around 60 islands and islets: La Maddalena
We will sail along the north coast of Caprera towards the island of La Maddalena to enjoy the coves and natural landscapes that this archipelago has to offer. On the way we left other coves also worthy of mention as Cala Napoletana, Caprarese, Serena or the famous Cala Garibaldi, named like this in honour to the famous hero of two worlds, Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Renowned for its fabulous beaches, the island is also recognisable for its rocky granite terrain and there are ancient ruins to discover for those wishing to indulge in the history of the area. If you fancy some time onshore, Cala Gavetta on Isola Maddalena is where we can spend your next evening. The town offers shops, restaurants and pizzerias for you to explore.
Day4
One of the pearls of the archipelago, Mediterranean charm of white sand and emerald sea: Spargi
After a tasty breakfast, we will set sail to on the neighbouring island of Spargi. A deserted island of pristine coves. The island will show us some of the most spectacular coves of our entire sailing trip. Cala Conneri, Cala Granara, Cala de la Bellezze Naturali, or Soraya are small pearls of white sand and turquoise waters where we find less footprints than on the island of Robinson Crusoe. Swim, snorkel and explore the transparent water of the bays of Isola Spargi, until you reach Cala Grano where we can moor for the night on the protected east coast of the island. The right thing to do now is to lie back on deck with a glass of delicious local wine and enjoy the peace and the breath-taking view of this place.
Day5
The medieval atmosphere of Bonifacio.
Early morning to head to the village of Bonifacio. Ahead we have a challenging day boat for every sailor, crossing the dreaded Strait of Bonifacio, the strait that separates Corsica from Sardinia. A place famous for its strong winds and its brave sea. There is a long spectacular fjord with a small harbour at the end.
The medieval citadel of Bonifacio sits atop towering limestone cliffs and the entrance to the harbour is only accessed through a channel in these incredible “falaises”. A definite safe harbour from all winds!
Enjoy a walk through the streets with its cafes, shops, restaurants. Do not miss a visit to the fantastic town which sits dramatically atop a narrow limestone peninsula. The panoramic views from this beautiful town are stupendous. The old town was built in the 12th century by Genoese conquerors and is reached by a long, steep flight of stairs.
Day6
Lavezzi, Cavallo and Budelli: masterpieces of nature which offer unforgettable emotions.
This morning the compass lead to coves of white sand and a turquoise blue water that has nothing to envy the Caribbean: the islands Cavallo and Lavezzi. These paradises are a group of islands and islets that became natural reserve, whose beauty is inversely proportional to their size. Lavezzi is the largest of all and is uninhabited. A paradise of crystal-clear waters rich in marine life that will delight the diving and snorkelling enthusiasts. And then… the final show: Budelli, considered one of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterranean. Head to the southeaster part of the island to the world famous “Spiaggia Rosa” or “pink beach”. The colour comes from microscopic fragments of corals and shells and is a stunning contrast to the greenery of this uninhabited island.
After all these beauties a tasty barbecue on board cannot miss!
Day7
The undisputed kingdom of luxury holidays is Porto Cervo.
In sailing back and returning to Poltu Quatu it is a must to visit Porto Cervo. The seaside village emerged around a natural cove that resembles a deer. There are many small, short, white buildings which are in harmony with nature. The harbour is the centre of Porto Cervo and there, it is quite likely that you will find yourself in the square, shopping with stars of the cinema and the television. Every day is a continuous stream of engagements with the international jet set: parties, social events, sports events, golf in particular.

This was the second time I sail with Michele, from Caribbean to Ibiza and Formentera, and it is always wonderful!
It's a mild-mannered person, an expert skipper, ( we took a bouy under sails ), he's very attentive to people; he's a superb chef (appetizing fish starters and very tasty courses), and above all he's a great humanity.
He goes beyond his skipper role and is experienced and well informed about places and interesting activities to do (from making paella to the best mojito). For sure there will be my third time!
