Sailing Greece: Santorini to Athens

From comfortable cruising to sporty sailing near the Cyclades, Greece offers us all options and depending on the interest of the crew we decide between relaxed bay hopping or “racing” with more wind. Cruises during the day can be held short to have more time to see the wondearful islands Poros and Aegina or the attractions like the ruins of Epidauros. Let´s enjoy the golden beaches, the pinewoods, the olive groves, the smell of mediterranean herbs, visit antique temples and stroll through alleys of little villages with its white cube houses. In the evening we chillax in a little tavern or with self cooked food on board.

Sail The Spirit chose Athens for its starting point to Saronic Gulf. The Saronic Gulf or Gulf of Aegina in Greece forms part of the Aegean Sea and defines the eastern side of the isthmus of Corinth. Sailing is extremely popular in the Saronic Gulf which benefits from the Attic mainland's partial shelter from the summer Meltemi wind that can reach Force 7 and above further to the east in the Aegean islands.

This group of Greek Islands is composed of Angistri, Aegina, Methana, Poros, Salamina, Spetses and Hydra and they have a lot to offer to the visitors: natural beauty, clean sandy beaches and even small deserted islets to explore. The visitor can easily see and admire the rich vegetation which is in contrast to the wonderful beaches and lovely secluded bays. Islands‘ villages are picturesque and authentic and the capital cities or main villages are a real architectural beauty.
