Adventure Sailing from Espiritu Santo to Remote Islands Volcanoes and Tribal Cultures
Discover one of the most remote and fascinating sailing regions in the South Pacific with a Vanuatu expedition sailing cruise exploring the Banks and Torres Islands. This adventure voyage begins and ends in Luganville on Espiritu Santo and sails through a chain of volcanic islands, coral reefs and traditional communities where local customs and lifestyles have remained largely unchanged for generations.
Vanuatu offers a unique combination of untouched nature, rich cultural traditions and exceptional marine biodiversity. During the voyage guests will explore remote tropical islands rarely visited by travelers, creating a true expedition experience in one of the least explored areas of the Pacific Ocean.
The journey begins in Luganville on Espiritu Santo, one of the most important diving destinations in Vanuatu. The waters around Santo are famous for historic World War II dive sites including Million Dollar Point and the legendary SS President Coolidge shipwreck, one of the largest and most accessible wreck dives in the world. Beyond diving, Espiritu Santo also offers spectacular natural attractions such as the famous blue holes located within the island’s lush tropical rainforest.
From Espiritu Santo the expedition sails north toward the remote Banks Islands. This volcanic archipelago is known for dramatic landscapes, ancient village sites and traditional island culture. Islands such as Gaua feature impressive natural landmarks including Lake Letas, the largest freshwater lake in the South Pacific, and Mount Garet, a semi active volcano located near the lake.
The voyage continues toward the Torres Islands, one of the most isolated island groups in Vanuatu. These islands offer stunning white sand beaches, powerful ocean swells ideal for surfing and a strong Polynesian cultural influence that distinguishes them from the Melanesian traditions found across much of Vanuatu. Visitors may encounter unique wildlife, including megapode birds and large coconut crabs that emerge along the beaches at night.
Throughout the expedition guests have the opportunity to explore remote villages and experience traditional Vanuatu culture in Kastom communities where ancestral customs remain an important part of daily life. Cultural encounters, island hikes, snorkeling and diving opportunities make this voyage a true exploration of the natural and cultural diversity of the region.
The sailing route covers approximately four hundred nautical miles and includes a wide range of landscapes such as volcanic islands, tropical forests, coral reefs and secluded lagoons. Life on board combines adventure with comfort, offering spacious cabins, shared meals and a relaxed community atmosphere during the journey.
This Vanuatu expedition sailing cruise offers an unforgettable opportunity to explore remote Pacific islands, discover traditional cultures and experience one of the most untouched sailing regions in the world.

Infinity is a fully-equipped 36 meter sailing expedition vessel on an ongoing voyage since 2003. She has traveled to over 2 dozen countries in both the North and South Pacific and in Southeast Asia and she has sailed amongst icebergs, penguins, and orcas in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, and Patagonia. She is crewed by a multicultural team with a contagiously positive vibe together with Captain Clemens Oestreich, who has skippered vessels for over 100,000 miles during the last 20 years, while raising his 5 children at sea. Infinity is built to be a world-traveling base for adventure and environmental work, forming a beautiful home with unique history and personality. The living quarters are designed with comfortable guest cabins and large communal spaces including an airy saloon, cinema, and extensive deck space. To date, over 200 crew members from all around the world have been part of many extraordinary adventures. They dove with wales and sharks, participated in environmental outreach and even battled deep-sea oil drilling companies. Infinity is open to guests for the first time this year.
