Your sailing trip
One-way sailing route along the wild east coast of Sardinia, from Cagliari to Cannigione, through the Gulf of Orosei, Cala Luna and the Tavolara area.
The east coast of Sardinia is one of the wildest stretches of the Mediterranean, where low golden shores alternate with sheer cliffs plunging into turquoise water. Sailing north from Cagliari to Cannigione, this one-way cruise follows that coast from south to north, with a new bay or small harbour every day.
The route is made of moderate sailings, with single legs of about 3 to 28 nautical miles, so that each day leaves time for a swim, a lunch on board and an evening ashore. Where to spend each night, at anchor or in port, is decided day by day according to the weather.
The scenery changes constantly: the sandy bays of Villasimius and Porto Giunco, the quiet roadstead near Porto Corallo, the islet of Ogliastra off Santa Maria Navarrese and then the Gulf of Orosei, with Cala Goloritzé, Cala Sisine and Cala Luna, a bay overlooked by pale grey rock walls, along the paths of the Selvaggio Blu. Further north the coast opens into the anchorages of Punta Capecciolo and the islands of Molara and Tavolara, where distances shrink to a few miles.
Ashore, Cala Gonone sits on a steep hill at the centre of the Gulf of Orosei, while Arbatax is known for its Red Rocks, porphyry cliffs that drop into the sea, and for the small beaches of Cala Moresca and Porto Frailis. Cea beach, with its red stacks, is one of the most photographed views of the coast.
Life on board is relaxed and informal: sailing with the skipper, swimming from the boat, shared dinners on deck or in small harbours, and a route that is adapted every day to wind and sea. The cruise ends in Cannigione, in the Maddalena Archipelago area.

Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light, but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor, ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What’s a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
On skipper-only charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties, think salads, pasta, and good teamwork. If there's a hostess, light meals and tidying are included, but it's still a casual, collaborative vibe. On fully crewed yachts, you’ll enjoy full service with a chef and crew managing everything. Want to know what’s included in your setup? Read the full guide: Who takes care of cooking and cleaning on a sailing charter?
Summer sailing holidays rarely face major weather issues, but when the sea gets rough, skippers adjust the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how crews handle these changes?
