A one-way week of cabin charter sailing from Mykonos to Santorini, island hopping through Syros, Naxos, the Small Cyclades, Amorgos and Ios with swim stops in clear Aegean water.
This one-way cruise starts in Mykonos and ends in Santorini, crossing the heart of the Cyclades in seven nights. The route links lively Mykonos with the quieter islands to the south, so each day brings a different harbour, a different beach and a different pace.
Sailing legs are short, usually between three and four hours, which leaves plenty of time for swimming, walking and exploring ashore. The exact route and the overnight stops follow the wind, the sea state and the harbour space available.
The islands change character as the week goes on: the whitewashed lanes of Naxos and Syros, the clear, shallow bays of the Small Cyclades, the cliffs of Amorgos and the sandy beaches of Ios. Swim stops and anchorages are chosen for calm water and good views.
Ashore there is plenty to discover: the neoclassical town of Ermoupoli on Syros, the old town and the Portara gateway on Naxos, the fishing villages and tavernas of Koufonisia, the harbour of Katapola on Amorgos and the hilltop Hora of Ios. Small family-run tavernas make an easy place to end the day.
Life on board is relaxed and sociable. The group shares the boat, the swims and the evenings in port, and the week finishes with the arrival in Santorini, with its volcanic caldera and famous sunsets.
Itinerary
Day1
Mykonos: Boarding and First Evening
Guests join the boat in Mykonos, meet the group and settle into their cabins. After the safety briefing there is time to explore Mykonos Town, with its whitewashed lanes, the church of Panagia Paraportiani and the waterfront of Little Venice at sunset.
Day2
Mykonos to Syros
A sail of about four hours leads to Syros, with a swim stop in the Bay of Gaidaros along the way. In Ermoupoli, the elegant neoclassical capital, there is time to stroll the waterfront and the old streets, or to take a bus up to the hilltop village of Ano Syros for views over the Aegean.
Day3
Syros to Naxos
The crossing to Naxos takes about four hours. The largest of the Cyclades has long sandy beaches, olive groves and a charming old town, where the Venetian Kastro and the Portara, the marble gateway of an unfinished temple of Apollo, are the main sights.
Day4
Naxos to the Small Cyclades
A shorter sail of about three hours leads to the Small Cyclades, a group of tiny islands that includes Koufonisia, Iraklia, Schinousa and Donousa, with clear water, sandy coves and sleepy fishing villages.
Day5
The Small Cyclades: Swimming and Village Life
A slow day to enjoy the Small Cyclades at their own pace: swim in turquoise bays, walk to quiet beaches and enjoy fresh seafood in a waterfront taverna as the sun goes down.
Day6
Small Cyclades to Amorgos
A sail of about three hours leads to Amorgos, the rugged island made famous by the film The Big Blue. The port of Katapola has windmills and traditional Cycladic houses, and the hilltop Hora and the cliffside monastery of Hozoviotissa are an easy excursion from the harbour.
Day7
Ios and Arrival in Santorini
A sail of about four hours leads to Ios, with the maze of white lanes of its Hora, sandy beaches such as Mylopotas and a lively harbour. From Ios, the group usually continues to Santorini by ferry after the last night, arriving at Athinios port. When the ferry is not running, the last leg to Santorini is sailed on this day and the final night is spent at anchor off Thirasia, a small island close to Santorini, with arrival at Athinios port the following morning.
Important Note
This itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions, sea state and operational requirements. The captain may adjust the route, anchorages and overnight stops to ensure safety, comfort and the best possible sailing experience.

What to pack for a sailing holiday?
Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? What’s a Typical Day Like on a Yacht Charter?
Days on this route are made of short sails between the islands, usually a few hours each, with swim stops in quiet bays when conditions allow and plenty of time ashore in small harbours and villages. The route and pace follow the wind and the sea. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What’s a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
Who Handles Cooking and Cleaning on a Yacht Charter?
On this cabin charter the skipper sails the boat, while breakfast and lunch on board are prepared by the travellers themselves, who share the cooking and tidying. Think salads, pasta, and good teamwork. It is a casual, collaborative vibe. On fully crewed yachts, by contrast, a chef and crew manage everything. Want to know what’s included in your setup?
