Starting from Palermo aboard a modern Elba 45 catamaran, this sailing itinerary explores the western coast of Sicily and the protected waters of the Aegadian archipelago. The route blends longer coastal passages with slower island hopping days, creating a balanced navigation rhythm suited to guests looking for both active sailing and relaxed time at anchor.
Leaving Palermo behind, the itinerary follows the rugged Sicilian coastline towards Castellammare del Golfo and the Zingaro Nature Reserve before crossing to the Aegadian Islands. Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo each offer a distinct atmosphere shaped by geography, maritime traditions and the pace of island life. Navigation alternates between open sea crossings and protected bays with calm turquoise waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

Day1
Boarding in Palermo and Sail to Castellammare del Golfo
Boarding takes place in Palermo during the afternoon, with time to settle onboard, organise luggage and meet the crew. After a short navigation and safety briefing, the catamaran departs westward along the northern Sicilian coastline. The first sailing leg offers views of Monte Pellegrino and the rocky shoreline surrounding Palermo before reaching the Gulf of Castellammare. Depending on sea conditions, the evening is spent at anchor near Cala Petrolo or inside Castellammare del Golfo harbor. Dinner onboard introduces the relaxed rhythm of life at sea.
Day2
Zingaro Coast and San Vito Lo Capo
After breakfast, navigation continues along the coastline of the Zingaro Nature Reserve. The route passes steep limestone cliffs, small sea caves and remote coves accessible mainly by boat. Swim stops are often planned near Cala dell’Uzzo or Cala Marinella where clear waters and rocky seabeds create excellent snorkeling conditions. In the afternoon, the catamaran reaches San Vito Lo Capo, a traditional fishing village surrounded by white beaches and mountain scenery. The evening can be spent ashore exploring the waterfront and local restaurants.

Offshore Crossing to Favignana
The day begins with a longer offshore navigation towards the Aegadian Islands. The crossing to Favignana usually covers around 20 nautical miles and introduces more open sea sailing conditions. Arrival is planned near Cala Azzurra or Cala Rossa, both known for transparent water and former tuff stone quarries carved into the coastline. The afternoon is dedicated to swimming, paddleboarding or simply relaxing onboard. Coastal Sailing Around Favignana and Levanzo
A slower navigation day allows time to explore additional anchorages around Favignana before continuing north towards Levanzo. Cala Minnola and Cala Tramontana offer sheltered waters and quiet surroundings ideal for snorkeling. Sailing to Marettimo
Leaving Levanzo behind, the itinerary continues west towards Marettimo, the wildest and most mountainous island in the archipelago. The navigation becomes more exposed and scenic, with deeper blue waters and dramatic coastal views approaching the island. Marettimo is surrounded by marine caves and steep cliffs shaped by volcanic and limestone formations. Depending on conditions, the catamaran anchors near Punta Bassana or enters the small harbor area. The village atmosphere remains quiet and traditional, with fishing boats and narrow streets defining the island’s character.
Day6
Marettimo Sea Caves and Return Towards Favignana
The morning is usually dedicated to exploring Marettimo’s coastline, where sea caves and hidden inlets create one of the most scenic marine environments in western Sicily. Tender excursions or local boats may access Grotta del Cammello or Grotta Perciata depending on sea conditions. After lunch onboard, the catamaran begins sailing back east towards Favignana or the Sicilian coastline. The return navigation offers time for sunbathing, reading and relaxed sailing before the final evening onboard.
Day7
Return Sailing to Palermo and Disembarkation
The final navigation leg follows the northern Sicilian coastline back towards Palermo. A final swim stop may take place near Capo Gallo or Isola delle Femmine before entering Palermo Marina La Cala in the afternoon. The evening is spent onboard in the marina, offering time for a final walk through Palermo’s historic center, dinner ashore or a relaxed last night on the catamaran. Breakfast onboard followed by check out and disembarkation within 9:00 AM at Palermo Marina La Cala.
