A one week sailing holiday from Cagliari along the south-east coast of Sardinia, from the Gulf of Angels and the Sella del Diavolo to Capo Carbonara, Isola dei Cavoli and the white beaches of Costa Rei.
The cruise departs from the marina in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, and follows the south-eastern coast of the island toward Villasimius, Capo Carbonara and Costa Rei, before returning along the same shoreline at the end of the week. The Gulf of Angels, dominated by the limestone ridge of Sella del Diavolo, makes a striking start, with the city rising in terraces behind the harbour.
The heart of the route is the stretch between Villasimius and Costa Rei, a coastline of white and pink sand, clear shallow water and Mediterranean scrub. Capo Carbonara and the small island of Isola dei Cavoli form a protected marine area where the colour of the sea changes from pale turquoise to deep blue within a few boat lengths, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
Further north, bays such as Cala Pira and Cala Sinzias and the long beach of Costa Rei offer quiet anchorages that are easier to enjoy from the water than from the road. The coastline is wild and open, with few buildings, and the evenings are calm.
Days follow an easy rhythm of morning departures, midday stops for swimming and lunch at anchor, and quiet evenings either in a small port or at anchor under an open sky. Passages are mostly short, and the route is adapted to the wind and sea conditions of the day.
Itinerary
Day1
Cagliari and the Gulf of Angels
Boarding takes place at the marina in Cagliari, with time to settle in, provision the boat and attend a briefing covering safety, onboard routines and the week ahead. Once everything is ready, the boat can leave the marina for a first swim and a quiet evening at anchor in the Gulf of Angels, with the limestone ridge of Sella del Diavolo and the long Poetto beach as a backdrop, or stay in port for the first night.
Day2
Capo Sant’Elia to Villasimius
After breakfast the boat rounds Capo Sant’Elia and follows the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, passing Torre delle Stelle and the wide bays of Solanas, with the mountains of the Sette Fratelli rising inland. The passage of around thirty nautical miles ends at Villasimius, a small seaside town at the edge of the Capo Carbonara marine protected area. The evening is free for a walk ashore and dinner in the village or a quiet night at anchor nearby.
Day3
Capo Carbonara and Isola dei Cavoli
The day is dedicated to the southern tip of the area, where the water turns from pale turquoise over the white sand to deep blue around the rocks. The boat visits the headland of Capo Carbonara and the small island of Isola dei Cavoli with its lighthouse, then stops at Punta Molentis and the sandy bay of Spiaggia del Riso for swimming and snorkelling. Anchoring and swimming areas follow the rules of the marine protected area.
Day4
Cala Pira and Cala Sinzias
Leaving Villasimius, the route turns north along a stretch of coast where pine trees and Mediterranean scrub meet small sandy coves. The boat stops at Cala Pira, a sheltered bay with clear shallow water, then continues to Cala Sinzias and the Castiadas coast. This is an easy day of short passages, with long hours at anchor for swimming, paddling and lunch on deck.
Day5
Costa Rei and Capo Ferrato
The morning leg reaches Costa Rei, one of the longest and brightest beaches of southern Sardinia, where the sea is shallow and calm for a considerable distance from the shore. The route continues toward the headland of Capo Ferrato, with its wild granite coastline and views over empty bays. The afternoon is spent at anchor, with the option of going ashore for a walk along the beach and a drink at one of the seaside bars.
Day6
Return toward the Gulf of Angels
The boat heads back south-west, retracing the coast with a different eye on the bays passed on the outward journey and stopping for a last long swim along the way. The night is spent at anchor or in a small port in the eastern part of the Gulf of Angels, depending on wind and sea conditions, in preparation for the final day.
Day7
Back to Cagliari
The last sailing day leads back along the Sella del Diavolo to the marina in Cagliari. The final night is spent on board, and disembarkation takes place the following morning. Those who wish can stay a little longer in Cagliari to explore the old district of Castello, the cathedral and the seafront.
Important Note
This itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions, sea state and operational requirements. The person in charge of the boat may adjust the route, anchorages and overnight stops, following the briefing at the base, to ensure safety and comfort.

What to pack for a sailing holiday?
Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? What’s a Typical Day Like on a Yacht Charter?
Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What’s a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
Who Handles Cooking and Cleaning on a Yacht Charter?
The arrangements depend on the charter formula. On bareboat charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties: think salads, pasta and good teamwork. If a skipper or hostess is added as an optional service, the arrangements for meals and tidying are agreed with the operator. On fully crewed yachts, a chef and crew manage everything. What Happens in Case of Bad Weather During a Sailing Holiday?
When the sea gets rough, the person in charge of the boat adjusts the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how these changes are handled?
