A one week sailing holiday from the Maremma coast to the Tuscan Archipelago, linking the old harbours of Talamone and Porto Santo Stefano with the granite island of Giglio and the wild shores of Giannutri.
The cruise departs from the marina of Grosseto, on the Maremma coast, and follows a circular route south to the Argentario promontory and out to the islands of Giannutri and Giglio before returning along the same shoreline. The Maremma coast, with its pine woods, long beaches and protected natural park, makes a calm and scenic start to the week.
The heart of the route is the open-water stretch between Argentario and the islands. Giannutri, the southernmost island of the archipelago, is a small crescent of limestone with clear water and sheltered coves, while Giglio offers a granite coastline, the harbour village of Giglio Porto, the walled hill town of Castello and the sandy bay of Campese.
On the mainland side, the route calls at Talamone, a small seaside village dominated by its fortress, and at Porto Santo Stefano, the lively harbour of Argentario, with its fishing boats, waterfront restaurants and views over the lagoon of Orbetello.
Days follow an easy rhythm of morning departures, midday stops for swimming and lunch at anchor, and evenings either in a small port or at anchor under an open sky. Navigation alternates between coastal passages and open-water crossings, and the route is adapted to the wind and sea conditions of the day.
Itinerary
Day1
Marina di Grosseto and the Maremma Coast
Boarding takes place at the marina in Grosseto, on the Maremma coast, with time to settle in, provision the boat and attend a briefing covering safety, onboard routines and the week ahead. Once everything is ready, the boat can leave the marina for a first swim along the pine-backed shoreline of the Maremma, or stay in port for the first night.
Day2
Along the Maremma Coast to Talamone
After breakfast the boat follows the coast south, past the long beaches and the dunes of the Maremma natural park, with the wooded hills rising inland. The passage ends at Talamone, a small seaside village at the foot of a medieval fortress, where the evening is free for a walk ashore and dinner by the harbour or a quiet night at anchor in the bay.
Day3
Talamone to Porto Santo Stefano
The route continues south toward the Argentario promontory, a rocky headland joined to the mainland by two narrow strips of sand and enclosing the lagoon of Orbetello. The boat arrives at Porto Santo Stefano, the main harbour of Argentario, where the waterfront, the old Spanish fort above the town and the fish restaurants make a pleasant stop for the evening.
Day4
Argentario and the Crossing to Giannutri
Leaving Porto Santo Stefano, the boat follows the western coast of Argentario, with its cliffs, small coves and watchtowers, and then crosses open water to Giannutri. The island is small, low and wild, with white limestone shores and clear turquoise water. Anchoring and swimming areas follow the rules of the protected area, and the night is spent in a sheltered cove.
Day5
Giannutri to the Island of Giglio
A short crossing leads to Giglio, the second largest island of the archipelago, with a granite coastline, terraced vineyards and a clear view of the mainland. The boat stops at Giglio Porto, a small harbour of pastel-coloured houses, and can continue to the sandy bay of Campese for a swim before the evening. The medieval hill village of Giglio Castello is a short ride from the port.
Day6
Giglio to Porto Santo Stefano
The return begins with a last swim in the clear water of Giglio, before the boat heads back across the channel to the Argentario promontory. The afternoon is spent at Porto Santo Stefano, with time to walk through the old streets, visit the fort and enjoy a last dinner by the harbour, or at a quiet anchorage nearby, depending on wind and sea conditions.
Day7
Back to Marina di Grosseto
The last sailing day leads north along the Argentario and Maremma coasts, with a stop at Talamone or an anchorage along the way for a final swim, before the arrival at the marina in Grosseto. The final night is spent on board, and disembarkation takes place the following morning.
Important Note
This itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions, sea state and operational requirements. The person in charge of the boat may adjust the route, anchorages and overnight stops, following the briefing at the base, to ensure safety and comfort.

What to pack for a sailing holiday?
Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? What’s a Typical Day Like on a Yacht Charter?
Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What’s a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
Who Handles Cooking and Cleaning on a Yacht Charter?
The arrangements depend on the charter formula. On bareboat charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties: think salads, pasta and good teamwork. If a skipper or hostess is added as an optional service, the arrangements for meals and tidying are agreed with the operator. On fully crewed yachts, a chef and crew manage everything. What Happens in Case of Bad Weather During a Sailing Holiday?
When the sea gets rough, the person in charge of the boat adjusts the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how these changes are handled?
