Your sailing trip
Sail aboard a traditional wooden gulet from Trapani through the Egadi Islands, exploring the coves of Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo in the clear waters off western Sicily.
The cruise covers the Egadi Islands, a small archipelago off the western coast of Sicily reached by a short crossing from Trapani. The route moves between Favignana, the largest and flattest of the three main islands, Levanzo, the smallest and closest to the mainland, and Marettimo, the most remote and mountainous, set further out in open water.
Sailing here stays largely coastal, with frequent stops to swim or anchor off a cove before moving on to the next stretch of coastline. The crossing to Marettimo is the longest open water leg of the week, while navigation around Favignana and Levanzo tends to be shorter and more sheltered.
Favignana's coastline alternates between flat limestone quarries and clear water coves such as Cala Azzurra and Cala Rossa, while Punta Sottile marks its western tip. Levanzo is rockier and quieter, its two main bays, Cala Tramontana and Cala Dogana, set against a largely uninhabited interior. Marettimo feels wilder still, with steep cliffs around Punta Libeccio, Punta Troia and Punta Bassana dropping straight into deep blue water.
Trapani itself carries a strong Sicilian character, with its salt pans and old town setting the tone before departure, while the islands themselves stay largely undeveloped, favoring small fishing harbors and quiet anchorages over built up resorts. Marettimo in particular retains a slower, more isolated rhythm, having stayed largely cut off from mass tourism.
Days generally combine a morning sail with time anchored for swimming, followed by a slower afternoon ashore or simply at anchor, with meals prepared fresh on board each day and evenings spent either in a small harbor or a sheltered bay.

Onboard life has the unhurried feel of traditional Mediterranean sailing, with wide wooden decks built for moving freely between sun and shade.
The main living area is a wide saloon with a communal dining table, a separate relaxing corner and an equipped galley where meals are prepared fresh each day, with wood interiors and natural fabrics giving the space a warm, homely feel.
Generous wooden decks and sundeck areas allow guests to spread out without feeling crowded, with plenty of room to move around the boat at anchor or underway.
Built entirely in wood with a solid, traditional structure, the boat offers notably stable sailing compared to lighter modern designs, with little of the rolling motion that can make some boats less comfortable at anchor.

Pack smart for your yacht charter: choose a soft bag instead of a hard suitcase, bring lightweight layers, reef-safe sunscreen, and non-slip shoes for onboard use. A couple of swimsuits and motion sickness remedies can also make a big difference. Each boat has limited storage, so pack light, but wisely! Need help building the perfect list? Start your day with a swim in a quiet bay, sail to hidden beaches or seaside villages, and enjoy a slow lunch on deck. Afternoons mean snorkeling, sunbathing, or exploring ashore. As the sun sets, your boat anchors in a scenic cove or near a harbor, ready for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars. Curious about the full experience? Discover more in our guide: What's a typical day like on a sailing holiday?
On skipper-only charters, guests usually share cooking and cleaning duties, think salads, pasta, and good teamwork. If there's a hostess, light meals and tidying are included, but it's still a casual, collaborative vibe. On fully crewed yachts, you'll enjoy full service with a chef and crew managing everything. Want to know what's included in your setup? Read the full guide: Who takes care of cooking and cleaning on a sailing charter?
Summer sailing holidays rarely face major weather issues, but when the sea gets rough, skippers adjust the route for your safety. Expect protected bays, marina stops, or a change in plan. These moments often lead to unexpected gems: local towns to explore, time to relax on board, or cozy dinners ashore. Curious about how crews handle these changes?
