Your sailing trip

Our one week cruise will enable you to explore the peaceful and stunning western Canary islands

Approximately 250NM starting with a “shake down” sail to Los Gigantes, north Tenerife and on to some of the less spoilt and beautiful Western Canary Islands of La Palma, El Hierro and la Gomera itself. This week cruise is intended for people with some previous sailing experience who are looking to enjoy a sailing cruise or also to achieve mileage towards further qualification together with 60NM qualifying passages for the Yachtmaster Exam. The days can be long, the winds can be challenging but our skippered cruises are very popular and will give you a great sense of achievement.

Itinerary

Day 1
Tenerife base - San Miguel Marina
We will meet and welcome you at your base. You are then invited to join us all for drinks to meet the team, your instructors and fellow students or crew who start their full week courses or cruise. You will be made very welcome by the Canary Sail team and we can advise the best restaurants for you to sample!
Day 2
Los Giganes
Prepare the yacht including a full safety brief. Set sail for Los Gigantes, north Tenerife for an initial short “shakedown” sail to settle you all in. Relax for the evening in this charming marina offering a good choice of restaurants and relaxing bars.
Day 3
Santa Cruz
Prepare to set off early for the sail up to Santa Cruz, La Palma (or Tazacorte). This is a full day sailing, usually on a beam reach (in NE winds) which should get you into your destination in time for dinner. Once again, a great choice of local restaurants awaits you all! The marina here is new and offers great facilities including relaxing bars around the marina, Wi-Fi, etc.
Day 4
La Palma
Maybe some time to look around this truly beautiful town before setting off again around the north of La Palma to the quite, relaxing location of Tazacorte. Again the marina facilities are new, the restaurants good and the small village and beach offer a quaint, relaxed holiday atmosphere – a real gem!
Day 5
El Hierro
It is possible these routes can be reversed to include the Western Island of El Hierro, La Restinga - weather dependent!
Day 6
Valle Gran Rey
Sail back to the west coast of La Gomera to Valle Gran Rey (Vueltas). This is a small fishing harbour offering the best fresh fish anywhere along with plenty of other, international choice of food. The yacht would be in San Sebastian on Thursday 31st December to join all our other yachts (8 in total!) for good fun in the cocktail bar for the New Year party on La Gomera.
Day 7
La Gomera
Sailing or relaxing at our choice because... today is the first day of a great new year! The morning after in Tenerife base - San Miguel Marina: leave the yacht at 10.00 latest please for your return home or to continue your holiday on La Gomera or Tenerife. Please contact us for advice on choices of quality accommodation.

Yacht - Benetau 45 First

Beautiful, perfect and bold. This sailboat fuses elegant lines with power and performance.

With enough space for eight, this boat has three cabins with two bunks each and two additional bunks in the saloon. You will find two heads and bathrooms on board. Cockpit panelling and table are made of teak.

Fully-equipped galley features a gas stove, a 220V socket, 12V fridges. The showers have automatic pumps and hot water, the bow head is electric. The boiler has a suitably large capacity: 40l.

Travelling to San Miguel Marina Tenerife
Based in the San Miguel Marina and situated just a 15 minute taxi transfer from Tenerife South (TFS) airport for those preferring the added convenience this location offers. Should you choose to start your sailing week from Tenerife, we will still sail you to La Gomera as part of your training week with us.

Getting to Canary Sail Tenerife consists of 3 easy steps
1. Booking a flight to Tenerife South airport (TFS) try www.skyscanner.com
2. Please ask the taxi driver to take you to Puerto Deportivo, San Miguel/Amarilla Golf Marina.
3. Met at the marina by one of our team and taken to your yacht.

Although most people fly to Tenerife South airport, flying to Tenerife North
airport is also an option.

what to pack
• Sunglasses
• High factor sun cream (not oil please!)
• Deck shoes if possible, otherwise soft shoes with a non-marking sole
• Shorts
• Gloves
• T-Shirts
• Fleece or jumper for the evenings
• Light jacket during the winter months
• Soft bag as opposed to a hard suitcase
• Light long sleeved shirt if you need to cover up in the sun
• Baseball/sun hat (preferably with a clip to stop it blowing overboard!)
• Sea sickness tablets should you need them
• Insurance for offshore sailing up to 40NM (territorial waters)
• Above all, enthusiasm!
