A 7-day sailing circuit through the western Balearic Islands, navigating between the volcanic coastline of Ibiza, the protected lagoons of Formentera, the offshore rock of Es Vedrà and the UNESCO-fortified harbour of Eivissa, departing from Sant Antoni de Portmany.
Between the western coast of Ibiza and the shallow channel separating it from Formentera lies a stretch of Mediterranean water that concentrates more variety of sailing experience into a compact area than almost anywhere else in the western basin. A catamaran week based at Sant Antoni de Portmany gives access to both islands in their entirety, connecting western Ibiza's pine-fringed coves and dramatic offshore rock formations with the posidonia-filtered lagoons of Formentera, the UNESCO-listed fortifications of Eivissa and the quiet northern bays of Ibiza that most visitors never reach by land.
Sant Antoni de Portmany occupies a large natural bay on the western coast of Ibiza that has functioned as a harbor since before Roman settlement. The marina is the most practical departure point for a counterclockwise circuit of both islands, putting the first anchorages of Cala Bassa and Cala Comte within fifteen minutes of the harbor entrance and orienting the entire week so that the prevailing summer wind from the northwest works with the route rather than against it.
The western coast of Ibiza between Sant Antoni and the southwestern tip of the island is the most concentrated section of natural sailing landscape on either island. A sequence of limestone headlands and pine forests descend to bays with white sandy seabeds and water that shifts from deep cobalt offshore to pale turquoise in the shallows, a color progression driven by the posidonia seagrass meadows that characterize this entire sailing area and give the water its Mediterranean transparency. Es Vedrà, the uninhabited limestone island rising 382 meters directly from the sea at the southwestern tip of Ibiza, is one of the defining natural landmarks of the Balearic Islands and a reference point that sailors have used for orientation for centuries.
The channel between Ibiza and Formentera, Es Freus, is a protected marine reserve where anchoring regulations apply over posidonia beds. Formentera's northern spit, Ses Illetes, is consistently ranked among the finest natural beaches in Europe, a narrow sandbar with water visible to the seabed in full clarity through eight meters or more. The island's western coast at Cala Saona and its southern plateau at Cap de Barbaria add further variety to what is, in terms of natural coastal quality, one of the most rewarding island-hopping circuits in the Mediterranean.
Ibiza Town, Eivissa, completes the cultural arc of the week. The Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila enclose a medieval city that has been continuously inhabited since Phoenician traders established a settlement here in the 7th century BCE, and the harbor below them is the most historically layered maritime space in the Balearic Islands.

Day1
Sant Antoni de Portmany, Boarding and Cala Bassa
The week opens at Sant Antoni Marina from the afternoon. After cabin allocation, provisioning from the supermarket near the harbor and a safety briefing with the skipper, the catamaran leaves the bay in the late afternoon for a short westward sail along the Ibiza coast. Cala Bassa sits in a wide sandy bay enclosed by low pine-covered headlands, well sheltered from the prevailing northwesterly and deep enough at the anchorage to hold reliably overnight. The water over the sandy bottom is clear enough to see the anchor from the deck in calm conditions. The first evening is spent at anchor watching the light shift over the western horizon with dinner onboard.
Day2
Cala Comte, Cala Tarida and Es Vedrà
A morning sail south along the western coast connects the first anchorage to Cala Comte, a bay broken into a series of rocky platforms and clear-water channels between small islets that create some of the most varied swimming conditions on the Ibiza coast. The seabed combines sand and rock with excellent snorkeling over the shallower sections between the islets. Navigation continues south in the afternoon toward Cala d'Hort, the bay that faces Es Vedrà directly across a short stretch of open water. The rock dominates the view from the anchorage with a physical presence that no photograph accurately conveys, its near-vertical limestone walls rising from the sea without any beach or approach at their base. The evening at anchor facing Es Vedrà at sunset, with the sky changing color behind the rock and the water turning dark below, is the most visually dramatic moment of the early part of the week. Day3
Southern Ibiza and Crossing to Formentera
The route follows the southwestern and southern coastline of Ibiza before the crossing to Formentera, passing anchorages including Cala Jondal and the Ses Salines natural park at the southeastern tip of the island, where the salt flats visible from the water have been in continuous operation since antiquity and still define the flat southern landscape. The crossing into Es Freus, the channel between the two islands, marks the transition into a different sailing environment. The uninhabited island of Espalmador sits between the two main islands at the entrance to the channel, its sandbank connecting it to Formentera at low water and its shallow turquoise anchorage on the lee side offering a natural first stop before the final approach to Ses Illetes. The posidonia meadows below the hull in the Formentera channel give the water a Caribbean quality of clarity that stops conversation on deck. Overnight at anchor off Ses Illetes.
Day4
Formentera, Cala Saona and Cap de Barbaria
A full day circling Formentera's coastline from north to south reveals the island's distinct character in stages. The morning is spent in the Ses Illetes area, with time for snorkeling over the seagrass and a walk along the sandbar before the boat sails west around the island. Cala Saona on the western coast is enclosed by red and ochre limestone cliffs that descend to turquoise water in a bay sheltered from the afternoon thermal wind, with a handful of low-key restaurants accessible by tender that serve fresh fish and local produce without ceremony. The road to Cap de Barbaria crosses a flat scrubland plateau of wild rosemary and juniper to the lighthouse at the island's southern tip, visible from the anchorage below and worth the walk for the view over open water in both directions. The village of Sant Francesc in the interior offers whitewashed lanes, a small covered market and the unhurried pace that makes Formentera genuinely different from its neighbor. Overnight at anchor.
Day5
Formentera to Ibiza Town
The return passage north from Formentera follows the eastern side of Es Freus toward the southeastern coast of Ibiza and then continues northeast to Ibiza Town. The approach to Eivissa from the sea is the most architecturally rich arrival of the week: the Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila appear progressively above the harbor entrance, the cathedral tower visible above the fortifications and the old fishing quarter of Sa Penya at water level below. The harbor has been receiving boats of every size and origin for roughly 2,700 years, and the physical quality of the approach by sail remains unchanged from the era when Phoenician traders anchored in the same basin. The afternoon and evening belong to the city, with the climb through the Portal de ses Taules into Dalt Vila, the views from the walls over the harbor and the marina, and dinner in the old town or at the waterfront. Day6
Northern Ibiza Coast and Cala Benirràs
Navigation departs Ibiza Town and heads north along the eastern coast of the island, a stretch of quieter water with small accessible coves and forested hillsides descending to the sea. Rounding the northern tip of the island, the boat reaches Cala Benirràs, a bay on the northern coast enclosed by pine-covered cliffs with a central rock formation rising from shallow water at the edge of the beach. The northern coast of Ibiza receives a fraction of the visitor numbers of the western and southern coastlines, and Cala Benirràs has an atmosphere shaped by decades of local use that gives it a genuinely different character from the more international bays visited earlier in the week. The water is calm and clear, suited to a slow afternoon at anchor with paddleboards and snorkeling gear over the rocky perimeter of the bay. Overnight at anchor.
Day7
Return to Sant Antoni and Disembarkation
The final passage follows the northern and then western coastline of Ibiza back to Sant Antoni, retracing the general geography of the first day from a different direction. A last swimming stop on the western coast, at Cala Salada or another sheltered bay between Cala Benirràs and Sant Antoni, closes the week's anchorage sequence before the boat enters the harbor. Arrival is planned for the afternoon or early evening. Guests spend the final night onboard and disembarkation takes place the following morning after breakfast.

The Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 is a 46-foot performance cruiser designed by Berret-Racoupeau with interiors by Nauta Design that was named Yacht of the Year at the Düsseldorf boat show in 2019. The chined hull, wider beam carried well aft and a substantially increased sail area compared to its predecessor produce a boat that is both genuinely fast under sail and genuinely comfortable to live aboard during a week at sea.
The Oceanis 46.1 was developed as the direct successor to the Oceanis 45, one of Beneteau's most commercially successful models, and the brief was to improve on an already well-regarded platform in every measurable area: more interior space, more sail area, better performance and a more refined finish below deck. The result is a boat that Sail Magazine described as a performance cruiser that not only makes lots of sense but is a joy to sail, and Yachting Monthly noted for having the steering very right, with a forward cockpit clear of lines and plenty of lounging space.
On deck, the cockpit is organized for both sailing and socializing without the two getting in each other's way. Twin wheels at the stern give clear visibility over the transom platform and direct access down to the water, a large central table seats eight comfortably, and two reclining sun loungers on either side of the companionway add a level of deck comfort that is unusual on a 46-foot production monohull. All lines are led aft to the helm stations, allowing short-handed sailing without crew movement on deck during maneuvers. The First Line version adds a longer mast, 28 percent more sail area and Harken deck hardware for guests who want more performance out of the same hull.
Below deck, the interior designed by Nauta Design is where the additional beam gained from the chined hull makes itself fully felt. The forward owner's cabin benefits from the full bow sections that Yachting World noted as belonging to a longer boat entirely, with an island double berth oriented fore and aft, a separate shower compartment and a private heads room that together produce a level of space more commonly found on a 50-foot yacht. The saloon is bright and well proportioned, with hull portlights, cabin-side windows and overhead hatches flooding the space with natural light throughout the day. The galley is equipped for serious provisioning with ample counter space, refrigeration and cooking facilities suited to a full group over a week at sea.
