A 7-day catamaran sailing holiday departing from Marina Santa Eulalia, circumnavigating Ibiza through the eastern coast, the northern cliffs, Cala Benirràs, the western bays, Formentera and Eivissa before returning along the sheltered southern coastline.
Marina Santa Eulalia sits on the eastern coast of Ibiza, eight nautical miles north of Eivissa and directly facing the uninhabited island of Tagomago just offshore. As a departure point for a week of sailing around Ibiza and Formentera, it offers something the western marinas do not: immediate access to the quietest and least developed stretch of coastline on the island, a sequence of small coves, dark sand beaches and rocky headlands between Santa Eulalia and the northern tip of Ibiza that most visitors never reach by land and that reward the effort of approaching by boat.
Santa Eulalia itself is the most understated of Ibiza's three main towns. Its promenade runs along a wide sandy beach backed by palm trees rather than nightclubs, the hilltop church of Puig de Missa watches over the town from a whitewashed ridge above the marina, and the harbor area has the character of a working Ibizan community rather than a purpose-built charter base. The marina has over 750 berths with full services including fuel, water and 24-hour security, and provisioning for a week at sea is straightforward from the town center a short walk away.
The eastern coastline between Santa Eulalia and the northern cape is Ibiza's most varied from the water. Cala Llonga to the south is a wide sandy bay in a sheltered inlet used by local families rather than tourist buses. Tagomago, a private island 900 meters offshore accessible only by boat, anchors the northeastern horizon with a lighthouse dating from 1913 and underwater terrain suited to snorkeling in exceptional clarity. Further north, the coastline becomes increasingly rugged as the land rises toward the Serra de la Mala Costa and the coves become harder to reach by any means other than sailing.
The northern coast of Ibiza receives the full force of the Tramuntana, the dominant northerly wind of the Balearics, and the exposed headlands of Cap Blanc, Cap des Mossons and the approach to Portinatx have a raw quality absent from the sheltered western and southern coasts. Port de Sant Miquel and Cala Benirràs provide natural shelter on either side of the most exposed section of the northern route, and the contrast between the dramatic north-facing cliffs and the quiet interior valleys visible from the anchorages makes this the most geographically varied day of the week.
The western coast, Formentera and Eivissa complete the circuit in a sequence that moves progressively from natural solitude toward the most historically rich destination in the Balearic Islands.
Itinerary
Day1
Marina Santa Eulalia, Boarding and Cala Llonga
Boarding takes place at Marina Santa Eulalia from the afternoon. After cabin allocation and a safety briefing with the skipper, provisioning from the town center fills any gaps before the first short departure. The catamaran heads south along the coast toward Cala Llonga, a wide bay five kilometers south of the marina enclosed by pine-covered slopes and used primarily by residents rather than tourists. The bay faces east and catches the morning light, with a sandy bottom that holds well at anchor in the calm conditions typical of the eastern coast in summer. The first evening establishes the rhythm of the week with dinner onboard at anchor.
Day2
Tagomago Island and the Eastern Coastline
After breakfast, navigation heads northeast toward Tagomago, the private island visible from Santa Eulalia that serves as one of the most distinctive anchorages accessible from the eastern coast. The southwest anchorage on the island's lee side offers calm water over a sandy seabed between four and six meters deep, with underwater visibility that benefits from the absence of any development on the island and the absence of motorboat traffic in the cove. The island's lighthouse on the northern end, built in 1913 and still operational, is visible from the anchorage and forms the reference point for the afternoon. The route continues northward along the eastern coast through the afternoon, passing Cala Boix, one of the few dark sand beaches on the island, and the quiet cove of Cala Mestella before selecting an anchorage on the upper eastern coast for the night.
Day3
Northern Coast, Portinatx and Port de Sant Miquel
The passage around the northeastern corner of the island and along the northern coast is the most physically dramatic navigation of the week. The coastline rises toward vertical limestone cliffs between Cap Roig and the approach to Portinatx, the northernmost bay on Ibiza's northern shore. Portinatx has three connected beaches in a sheltered configuration and a small town with restaurants and a waterfront that retains the character of the fishing village it was before tourism reached the northern coast. From there, navigation continues west along the cliff-lined northern shore toward Port de Sant Miquel, a narrow fjord-like inlet cutting deep into the island's interior with forested slopes on both sides descending to a wide sandy beach at its head. The combination of shelter and natural scenery makes this one of the best anchorages on the island. Overnight at anchor in Port de Sant Miquel.
Day4
Cala Benirràs and the Northwest
The morning passage west from Port de Sant Miquel rounds Cap des Mossons and brings the boat into Cala Benirràs, the northern bay that has become Ibiza's most quietly celebrated anchorage for guests who arrive by boat rather than by road. The bay is enclosed by pine-covered cliffs with a central basalt rock formation rising from shallow water at the edge of the beach, and the water is clear and relatively calm in the lee of the headland. The beach has hosted an informal Sunday evening drumming gathering for decades, a tradition rooted in the island's alternative community history that gives Cala Benirràs an atmosphere distinct from any other anchorage on the island. Whether the visit coincides with a Sunday or not, the bay itself justifies the passage from the north. Overnight at anchor.
Day5
Western Coast, Cala Bassa and Crossing to Formentera
Navigation continues south along the western coast of Ibiza, following a sequence of bays and headlands that includes Cala Salada, Cala Bassa and Cala Comte. The western afternoon light over the limestone seabed here produces the water color that defines Ibiza's visual identity in every photograph, and the swim stop at Cala Bassa or Cala Comte in the mid-afternoon is one of the clearest memories guests typically carry from the week. From the southwestern tip of Ibiza the boat crosses into the channel between the two islands, navigating through the Ses Salines Natural Park toward Formentera. The shallow posidonia beds of the channel floor give the water a transparency that deepens progressively toward turquoise as the depth decreases approaching the northern spit. Formentera and Ses Illetes
A full day on Formentera begins with the morning at anchor in Ses Illetes, the sandbar beach on the northern tip of the island that concentrates the most celebrated natural water quality in the Balearics into a single accessible anchorage. The posidonia meadows below the hull filter the water to a clarity that makes the seabed completely visible at depths where most other Mediterranean anchorages become opaque. La Savina harbor, a short sail east, provides access to the island interior by bicycle, a practical and well-established way to cross the flat limestone plateau between the port and the village of Sant Francesc, the salt lagoons east of the harbor and the southeastern coast at Es Pujols. Cala Saona on the western coast closes the day with a last swim in the most sheltered and naturally enclosed bay on Formentera. Overnight at anchor.
Day7
Return via Eivissa to Santa Eulalia and Disembarkation
The final navigation heads northeast from Formentera along the southeastern coast of Ibiza, passing Ses Salines and the approach to Eivissa for a stop below the walls of Dalt Vila before the return to Santa Eulalia. The harbor of Eivissa allows time ashore in the UNESCO-listed old town for a last coffee, a walk through the Portal de ses Taules and views over the harbor before the final afternoon sail north along the eastern coast back to Marina Santa Eulalia. Arrival is planned for the late afternoon. Guests spend the final night onboard and disembarkation takes place the following morning after breakfast.

The Lagoon 52 F is the flybridge version of a catamaran designed by VPLP with a mast stepped further aft than the industry standard, a decision borrowed directly from offshore racing that reduces pitching, simplifies sail handling and opens the entire forward deck to unobstructed living space. The result is a 52-foot platform that sails better than its size suggests and lives as generously as the numbers imply.
The Lagoon 52 F is the flybridge variant of a catamaran that finished first and third in its class at the ARC+ 2016 transatlantic rally, a detail that reflects the seriousness of the sailing design beneath what is primarily a cruising boat. The aft-stepped mast produces a shorter boom, a self-tacking jib and a square-top mainsail with generous forward sail area that combines well with downwind sails for passages that cover real distance. Sail Magazine described the motoring experience from the flybridge as similar to running a trawler yacht, but more stable, faster, quieter and more maneuverable, a comparison that captures how settled and well-sorted the platform feels under engine.
The flybridge is the defining feature of the F version and the place where most of the daily decision-making happens. The helm station is positioned at the base of the mast with halyards and sheets falling naturally to hand, and the large wheel pivots laterally to port or starboard, giving the helmsman clear access to the instrument displays without obstructing the lounging areas on either side. Deck access from both port and starboard sides of the flybridge makes movement around the upper deck straightforward in any conditions. All sail controls are organized in a pit layout with properly sized Harken winches, creating a working environment that functions well for both an experienced crew and a family with limited sailing background.
The cockpit below the flybridge is enclosed and fully functional as an outdoor living space, with a wet bar, a second sink unit with icemaker and a Corian-topped bar fridge that make it genuinely useful for extended time at anchor. The entire area can be enclosed with clears when conditions require. The saloon connects flush with the cockpit through wide sliding doors and benefits from VPLP's characteristic panoramic vertical coachroof windows that bring light into the interior from multiple angles. Below deck, the Lagoon 52 F is available from three to six cabin configurations, with a dedicated aft cabin that accesses directly from the cockpit steps and has a self-contained feel separate from the main hull accommodation.
