If you are planning a yacht vacation to any of the Carribean Islands there are a few key elements that will make your vacation a special time and not a horror inducing nightmare: first of all, the best time to plan a sailing holiday to the Caribbean Sea is from mid-December to mid-April, so plan your tour accordingly. As of January 1, 2007, all travelers to the Caribbean will need to carry a valid passport, so take care to have a valid one with you and eventually request your VISA in time. The Caribbean islands stretch over 1,700 miles in the Caribbean Sea and were colonized by the Spanish, French, English, Dutch, and a few other countries so people do not speak the same language in every country and island, and the dialects of the languages they speak are completely different. Though you might get by with English, knowing a bit of Spanish and French would not go amiss. Caribbean people live on islands, and as such are never in much of a hurry to do anything, time is a relative term in the Caribbean, so dial down, relax and enjoy your yacht vacation. Carrying cash is a necessity, since most of the islands shops and vendors are not equipped with internet or cannot accept credit cards.
Also better to check ahead on the local currency, and make sure to have some money at hand before you arrive. Many of the islands run on tips, too, and if you're not topping the level of service could deteriorate accordingly.
Each island has different cultures, popular activities, and tourist offerings, but if you want to get immersed in the local culture the best tip is to go where the tourists are not, this is also why a yacht vacation is one of the better ways to enjoy discovering the islands of the Caribbean Sea, sailing around will keep you away from the resorts, the clubs and eateries, this way you’re guaranteed a more authentic experience. If you are thinking of renting a car in the Caribbean, take into account that while it can be a great way to see parts of the island you wouldn’t see otherwise, it could also be a recipe for disaster if you’re not comfortable driving on the left side of the road or navigating areas with no street signs. Finally, the Caribbean islands are modern countries with all the amenities, but it is still better to be prepared. Packing some practical items can be a life saver, along with the bikinis and linens shirts, male place for some big spray, since mosquitoes are prevalent in the Caribbean, and can reach you even on the yacht, sunblock is also a necessity, since you will need it before getting a sunburn and not after. Even in the dry season, a rain jacket can come in handy for passing storms. A small first-aid kit can be useful for unexpected cuts and bruises, and if you have a chronic condition, don’t forget to throw in your medicines and painkillers, or any other items you may need, they could be difficult to find or be not quite the same. In the end though to make the most of a yacht holiday the Caribbean Sea, what you will need the most is an open minded attitude and the will to discover new sights and people!
